Inspiration taken from: Even the earth cries out for Jesus to return
God,
Sometimes I see the problems of this world: the war, the ongoing COVID pandemic, the loss, the death, the brokenness in my life and the lives of my loved ones, and it can feel so hopeless. I can empathize with people who look at this world, and then they question how can there be a good God in our midst?
I question in my heart, all the time, your goodness. It’s not that I don’t believe in You, but I wonder where your promise goes when I see the chaos waging war and looking more and more victorious. It is agony to my soul to watch on. It is so painful, God, to wait for You, but Your Word is salve to my bleeding heart.
The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come like a thief.
2 Peter 3:9
For our benefit, You take Your time in enacting righteousness and justice. God, I can feel so abandoned by You. I can look at others and wonder where is the goodness in their lives.
“For the creation eagerly waits with anticipation for God’s sons to be revealed”
Romans 8:19.
God, all we can do is cry out to You. You did not put us under this curse, but we are the administers of our own sorrow and suffering. It is the consequences of the sins that we are now burdened to bear and that we now inflict onto others as a result.
“The earth is defiled by its people; they have disobeyed the laws, violated the statutes and broken the everlasting covenant. Therefore a curse consumes the earth; its people must bear their guilt.”
Isaiah 24:5-6
I feel so tired, God, and life is so hard. It is so hard to press on everyday, and I mourn for the lives that have decided it is too hard to press on for a moment longer. Lord, if my hope is in people, government officials, kings, nations, money, or even myself: what a tragedy that would be. What is the point of our lives? To suffer day and night only to be relieved by stealing whatever moments of happiness we can take?
For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that[a] the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God. We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time.
Romans 8:20-22
Freedom. There is true, just, and merciful freedom in the hands of God, and I want to be showered, drenched in your endless mercy, God. I can’t live this life on my own strength. My body, soul, heart, and mind fail me everyday. I need You, God, to uphold me in all my weakness.
Like David in the Psalms, Lord, do not forsake us for Your namesake. For Your glory, don’t leave us alone to our own wretchness. God, we cry out for You to change hearts, lives, and turn Your enemies into Your children.
God, I lift up my burdens to Your capable hands. I don’t want to carry on unless they are surrendered to You. I am completely and utterly helpless, pour into me love, strength, and enough faith to sustain me for each day.
There is nothing else I can hold onto besides You. There is no one who can help me. There is no one I want to turn to besides You because You know me and love me.
I praise You, Lord, for You are Mighty. You are my Redeemer. You are the rest my soul can never get enough of. I am Yours. You are mine. Only You are my Help. God, hear us, walk with us, be with us, in Your Son’s name, I pray to You.
Amen.
